The Stadium, inaugurated in February 1997, was re-launched on 3rd August, 2005 following renovation. Occupying an area of 35,585sq.m, the stadium is suitable for hosting various kinds of sports and cultural activities, ranging from track and field to football competitions. It is also an ideal venue for concerts as well as opening and closing ceremonies for major events. Surrounded by a greenbelt area, the stadium also contributes to the environment of the community and adds colour to the district. The major venues and facilities of the Olympic Sports Centre include the Stadium, the Hockey Field, the Multi-Purpose Zone, and the Aquatic Centre. Located in an area deemed a landmark with comprehensive sports facilities on Taipa island, the centre fulfils the diverse needs of sports associations and residents in Macao.
