The 2014 Macao Sports Day for the Disabled, hosted by the Macao Sport Development Board and co-organized by the Macao-China Paralympic Committee & Macao-China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled, the Macao Special Olympics and the Macao Sports Association of the Deaf, was successfully held at the Indoor Pavilion of the Olympic Centre Stadium on 27th April 2014, attracting around 2,500 person-times of participants. Nine recreational and sports activities and three physical fitness assessment stations were provided onsite to the disabled, their families and other Macao citizens to enjoy the fun of exercising.
The Macao Sports Day for the Disabled has already stepped into its 12th year. Every year, the disabled and their families actively participate in the event and try their best, embodying the sportsmanship of never-give-up. This year, a total of nine recreational and sports activities and three physical fitness assessment stations were set up. They helped participants to assess their physical fitness conditions and enabled citizens to share the fun of exercising with the disabled with various recreational and sports activities. Through the Sports Day, the organizers intended to promote the idea of “Let’s exercise for a better health” to the disabled and the general public more effectively, and to disseminate the positive message of “A harmonious society, social integration of people with or without disabilities, life-long participation in sports”. Meanwhile, they also intended to arouse public awareness and understanding of the disabled, encourage the latter to actively participate in social activities and promote joint efforts in creating a healthy and harmonious society. Special guest of this year was local athlete Ms. Kuan Sok Mui of the indoor artistic cycling group. Her presence served as both a support and encouragement for the disabled to get actively involved into the society and face challenges with a healthy body.
