The Macao Sport Development Board launched the Public Sports Facilities Network in 2006 by allocating the increasing resources into large-scale sport establishments, optimizing existing facilities and integrating its sport venues so that the public can take full advantage of the sport equipment to exercise.
In order to create more spaces for sport, the Macao Sport Development Board has been looking for partnership. As local schools and associations with sports facilities could supposedly be available to the public during non office hours, the Board has actively been communicating with eligible establishments and inviting them to join the Public Sports Facilities Network. The Women’s General Association of Macao and the Macao Keang Peng School (secondary school section) expressed their full supports by entering into the partnership last year.
With constant efforts to enlarge sport spaces, the Macao Sport Development Board has once again enlisted support from the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, who has its Taipa Lago Integrated Services Centre of Macao joined into the Public Sports Facilities Network. The Centre began its operation on March 29th, providing residents of the local areas with more options for training and exercise. The table tennis facilities are open from Tuesdays to Fridays during 2-7pm for individual immediate use.
Until now, the Public Sports Facilities Network has covered 24 sites, including the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Macao University of Science and Technology, the Macao Sam Yuk Middle School, the Colégio Dom Bosco (Yuet Wah), the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the San Kio Neighborhood Association of Macao (Associação de Mútuo Auxílio dos Moradores do Bairro San Kio), the Women’s General Association of Macao, the Macao Keang Peng School (secondary school section) and other institutions.
The Macao Sport Development Board will continue to invite eligible schools and associations to join the Public Sports Facilities Network, aiming to create more spaces for sport, encourage the public to participate in sport activity and to adopt a “Sports for All: Let’s Exercise for a Better Health” approach.
