The 2014 International Children’s Games were held from 7th to 10th December in Lake Macquarie, Australia. About 1,500 athletes from 80 cities from all over the world competed in eight categories, namely track and field, swimming, gymnastics, football, sailing, water polo, golf and BMX. The Macao sports delegation sent 18 athletes to participate in the track and field, swimming, football and golf categories.
The Macao sports delegation won three bronze medals in this edition of International Children’s Games. Specifically, Ao Ka Hou won a bronze medal in the Boys Golf Individual Net, joining hands with teammate Lam Chon Him to win another bronze medal in the Golf Team Net. Lam Cho Kei also won a bronze medal in the Boys 100 metre Sprint.
The International Children’s Games have been held since 1968. Participating athletes are from 12 to 15 years old. The year of 2014 marked the 48th edition of the event, with the next edition to be held in Alkmaar, Netherlands.
In the past, Macao S.A.R. has organised delegations to attend the International Children’s Games in Thailand, Iceland, U.S.A., Greece, Bahrain, Scotland and Korea, in order to provide young athletes with the opportunity to put their abilities into full play and engage in cultural exchange with foreign participants.
