1st October is a joyful day for all Chinese. To celebrate this special occasion, a series of events was hosted by the Macao SAR Government and supported by the Macau Sport Development Board.
Macao Celebrates China’s National Day - World Walking Day Fun Run’
As a member of the Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) and Asiania Sport for All Association (ASFAA), the Macau Sport Development Board hosted the ‘World Walking Day Fun Run’ and ‘World Walking Day Enjoy Hike’.
The ‘World Walking Day Fun Run’ was held on 1st October and began in the Golden Lotus Square. The opening ceremony of the event was presided over by MSAR Chief Executive Mr. Fernando Chui Sai On. Some 18,000 runners joyously started their run at the bang of the starter’s pistol. The race distance approximated 3 kilometres, while 10 awards were available for male and female categories, respectively; this year’s winner in the men’s category was Iao Kuan Un; Hoi Long won the woman’s category; while the ‘Individual National Day Cup’ went to Iao Kuan Un and the ‘Group National Day Cup’ went to the Macao Jiangmen Communal Society.
World Walking Day Enjoy Hike
The ‘World Walking Day Enjoy Hike’ was held in the morning on 2nd October at Hac Sa Reservoir Country Park, with a walking distance of 3km. Participants were led by docents who introduced scenery, plants and messages about conservation to the public. The walk took two hours to complete.
The Sport-Health Advisory Station, sports games and Sport for All class performances were also presented on that day. The organiser hoped the public would develop a ‘lifetime sports’ mode of life, insist on daily physical exercise and work together toward the goal of fitness.
National Day Celebration – Sports and Art Extravaganza
This year’s National Day Celebration - Sports and Art Extravaganza, hosted by the Macao SAR Government and supported by the Macau Sport Development Board, was held on 1st October in the Macao East Asian Games Dome.
The extravaganza was presented by eminent singers Joey Yung, Chi-lam Cheung and others. These superstars shared the joyfulness through singing and dancing with Macao residents. With the concert, the organiser hoped to enjoy the day with Macao residents and propagate the message about public sports while celebrating the National Day of China.
Macao singers Terence Chui, Pang Veng Sam and Vivian Chan, the opening guests of the concert, performed pleasant-sounding songs. Mr.Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Mr.Zhang Xiaoguang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr.José Tavares, President of the Macau Sport Development Board; Mr.Pun Weng Kun, the Vice President of the Macau Sport Development Board and Mr.Allen Lau, Acting Vice President of the Macau Sport Development Board presided over the opening ceremony of the show.
Prominent Hong Kong star Cheung Chi-lam presented his greatest hits which led the concert to the climax. This was followed by Gillian Chung, Sherman Chung, Vincy Chan, Ken Hung, Adason Lo, Jay Fung, Angela Hui and Soler, whereby a number of popular songs were performed. Joey Yung presented the final magnificent performance, elevating the audience’s passionate emotions to the highest level. All 6,000 spectators were excited and happy for the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.
