The 2015 Macao Residents Physical Fitness Monitoring & Assessment was organised by Macao Sport Development Board and co-organised by the Health Bureau, Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Social Welfare Bureau, Tertiary Education Services Office and Macau Polytechnic Institute; it obtained technical support from the China Institute of Sports Science (CISS) of the General Administration of Sport of China. The assessment work ran for about four months from January. The opening ceremony was held at 10:00am on 22nd January 2015 in the Multi-function Room of the Olympic Sports Centre. Mr. Tian Ye, Director of the CISS, was invited to preside over the ceremony.
In his message, Mr. José Tavares, President of Macao Sport Development Board, stated that it is the third Macao Residents Physical Fitness Monitoring & Assessment, and is of great significance as it is held in conjunction with nationwide resident physical fitness monitoring and assessment which is conducted once every five years. The statistics gathered this time would allow the government to divine residents’ physical fitness as well as trends, assisting, in turn, in formulating assorted policies and guidelines, encouragingMacao to become a continuously healthy city.
Following the Assessments in 2005 and 2010, they were held once again this year, targeting Macao residents aged 3-69, who were divided into four groups; namely, infants, teenagers and students, adults, and the elderly. The monitoring samples were primarily collected from local schools, community associations, public and private organisations and elderly services organisations. The Assessment primarily included a questionnaire and some 20 testing indices related to three areas: body shape, physical function, quality [of life?] and health.
It was anticipated that the assessments of 10,000 Macao samples would be completed by April this year. The statistics will be compiled into the 2015 Physical Fitness Report of Macao SAR Citizens following studies and analyses.
