The 2015 International Children’s Games was held in Alkmaar, the Netherlands from 24th -29th June. The sport delegation of Macao, China, led by Mr.José Tavares, President of the Macao Sport Development Board, and the head of the delegation, visited the Games.
The International Children’s Games, for young athletes aged 12-15, began in 1968 and this year marked its 49th edition. For this edition of the Games, more than 1,500 athletes from some 80 cities worldwide competed in nine categories – track and field, swimming, gymnastics, football, golf, judo, tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball. The sport delegation of Macao, China sent 18 athletes to participate in track and field, swimming, judo and tennis; in particular, Lao Ka Cheng and Ng I Kei won a silver medal, respectively, in the girls’ - 40kg and girls’ - 52kg in judo.
In the past, the Macao Special Administrative Region has sent delegations to the International Children’s Games in Thailand, Iceland, the United States, Greece, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, Korea and Australia, in the hopes of enhancing young athletes’ exchange and learning in sport and culture by participating in international sports events.
