Organised by the State General Administration of Sports and undertaken by the People’s Government of Fujian Province, the 1st National Youth Games were held from the 18th to 27th October in Fuzhou, Fujian Province.
A total of 305 events in 26 competition categories were orchestrated for 1st National Youth Games. Participants exceeded 12,000, including 7,959 players and 3,403 coaches. Macao dispatched a delegation of 159 individuals, 106 of whom were athletes competing in 13 events, namely aquatics (swimming, diving), track and field, boxing, canoeing, road cycling, fencing, shooting, sailing and windsurfing, taekwondo, handball, volleyball and wushu (taolu).
Macao's players showed their class in the competitions, carrying forward the sportsmanship of Macao athletes by striving for outstanding results. In swimming, they broke the Macao Record for the men's 400m individual medley. As for track and field, they set a new Macao Junior Record in the women's 4×100m relay, while four athletes achieved their personal best in the men's and women's 400m and women's 200m.
Head of the Macao Sports Delegation and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, along with other delegates, attended the opening and watched some of the competitions to boost team morale and demonstrate support.
