The physical health state of a majority of residents living in cities is classified as “sub-health” because of their busy lifestyle, rapid pace, and sustained stress from work, family and societal pressure. In particular, symptoms such as neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, and knee joint pain occur frequently. According to statistical data, it is illustrated that 80%-90% of people have experienced the symptoms mentioned above. Among those symptoms, low back pain is the most common among the middle-aged people, while neck and shoulder pain is in the second most common.
In order to prevent and alleviate symptoms such as neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, pain and weakness on both knees, etc., the Sports Medical Center under the Sports Bureau has been hosting 2 types of rehabilitation training classes since 2000. They are: 1.) Neck and Shoulder Rehabilitation Training Class, of which the target group mainly includes patients suffering from chronic cervical spondylosis and periarthritis. 2.) Lower Back and Knee Rehabilitation Training Class, of which the target group includes patients suffering from lumbar muscle strain, lumbar herniated disc, atrophy of quadriceps femoris, and knee dysfunction. The rehabilitation training classes mainly aim to provide with complete sports medical training for people in Macao. By teaching the methods of self-administered physiotherapy, patients’ symptoms can be alleviated.
In this year, there are 7 classes. The classes will be scheduled from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from March to November. The class venue is the 2nd Floor, Sports Medical Center, no. 220 Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano, Taipa. The total number of teaching hours for each class is 8 hours. Each class is composed of 15 people. The fee is MOP150. The residents who are interested can contact the Sports Medical Center at 2881 0896 for registration and making an appointment. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.
Since neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, and knee joint pain do not result from a single cause, before each class begins, the Center will provide a free injury check service to each member who has registered for the class to ensure their safety. The physical condition of the participants and the causes of their pain are analyzed whether they are suitable for joining the related courses.
