The 23rd Asian Table Tennis Championships began on 9th April 2017 at the Wuxi Sports Center Gymnasium. This competition is the highest level table tennis competition in Asia. In total, about 600 athletes, judges, and event officers from 29 countries and regions went to Wuxi to participate in the event. The Macao - China Table Tennis Team sent 4 male players and 4 female players to join the team competition. They included: Cheong Chi Cheng, Chang Hoi Wa, Wang Chun, Cheong Chi Chun, Wong Lou, Chong Weng I, Cheong Cheng I, and Tao Chong. The result was that the Men's Team and Women's Team ranked the 17th and 16th respectively in the competition.
The Men's and Women's Teams first engaged in the group matches on 9th April. The Men's Team defeated Mongolia and Lebanon by 3:0 in both matches, but lost to DPR Korea by 0:3. The Women's Team defeated Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan by 3:0, while they lost to Iran by 0:3.In terms of the rankings in the group, the Men's Team and Women's Team ranked the 13th and 18th respectively. When it came to the classification league, the Men's Team lost to Saudi Arabia by 0:3, but then defeated Uzbekistan by 3:1 and ranked the 17th. The Women's Team defeated Mongolia by 3:0 in the classification league, and then lost to Uzbekistan by 1:3. They also lost to Indonesia by 0:3 afterwards, and ended up ranking the 16th at the end of the group competition.
