The 18th Asian Games will be held from 18 August to 2 September in Indonesia. Macao will dispatch a sports delegation competing in 16 events. Athletes from each team are preparing diligently for the competition. Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, visited the base camps of the martial arts team and karate team, and was informed of how the training was being conducted as he observed. He encouraged the athletes of the delegation by stating, “The SAR government and residents of Macao will support you all as you compete for the honor of Macao to the best of your ability”.
Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng first visited the Martial Arts Youth Academy, and then visited the karate training camp at the Sports Training Center. He was informed of how athletes were selected and how they prepared for the competition by the leaders of the sports associations and team coaches. He also observed the team's training. Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng encouraged the martial arts team, karate team and all athletes who will compete in the Asian Games, “I can feel our athletes' active attitude from their training. They have been doing their best and making full preparation. I am fully confident in all of our athletes. However, I do not want to put stress on their preparation. I just hope that they can remain calm as if they were having training, and that they can perform as well as they have done in training, demonstrating a serious attitude during the competitions and achieving brilliant results”.
