Li Yi, as a senior member of the wushu team, led the team to compete in the Asian Games held in Indonesia again, after she had won a silver medal in the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in 2014. She won a silver medal in the long fist event, becoming a role model for the young generation of the wushu team.
In the last Asian Games, Li Yi had won an overall silver medal in the women's spear and sword event. This year, she decided to compete in the long fist event, in the hope that she could perform as an all-round contestant in the arena. Eventually, she gained 9.72 points with her powerful and smooth movements. She only lost to another contestant from China, Qi Xinyi, by a narrow margin of 0.02 points thus winning another silver medal.
Li Yi, who had been sleepless and anxious before the contest, felt relieved after the contest. She stated, “My performance in the competition was the best since the group training. Over the past four years, I have been motivating myself to make progress. I have become more mature and stable both mentally and technically. With my results, I proved that I am capable in all the three events: long fist, spear and sword. The effort that I have been making finally paid off. I also believe that I can win a gold in the future.”
