The 38th general assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia was held in March in Bangkok, Thailand. In the assembly, the new president and executive board members were elected.
Ahmed Fahd Al-Sabah was reelected president successfully. President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China Lou Keng Chio, Secretary-general Chan Chak Mou and President of the Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun attended the event.
The major agenda of this general assembly included the election for the President and executive board members, who will serve the coming term (2019-2023). Ahmed Fahd Al-Sabah, as an uncontested candidate, was reelected President of the Olympic Council of Asia, while all executive board members were also elected. The list of nominees for presidents of various subcommittees was approved. Lou Keng Chio, President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, was reappointed as President of the media committee of the Olympic Council of Asia. Afterwards, President of the Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun and Ma Chi Seng were reappointed as member of Olympic Council of Asia and member of the Sports Council, serving another four-year term.
In addition, the preparatory works of various Asian large-scale multi-sport events were also reported in the general assembly, including the 19th China Hangzhou Asian Games, the 20th Japan Nagoya Asian Games and the 6th China Sanya Asian Beach Games. In particular, it was decided that the China Hangzhou Asian Games would be held from September 10 to 25, 2022. On the other hand, the sport-related cooperation between the Olympic Council of Asia and Oceania will also be enhanced, as the athletes of the Oceania National Olympic Committee will be invited to the China Hangzhou Asian Games. It was expected that 10,000 athletes will participate in this Asian Games, competing in less than 40 events. The China Sanya Asian Beach Games will also be held from November 28 to December 6. It was expected that 18 sports events would be established, with specific details to be finalized afterwards.
Another part of the agenda of the meeting was concerning the right to host the 3rd Asian Youth Games in 2021. Shantou City, China presented a detailed organizing plan in the meeting and was highly regarded by the Olympic Council of Asia. The executive board members reached a consensus, which was also officially announced by President of the Olympic Council of Asia Ahmed Fahd Al-Sabah, that the right to host the 3rd Asian Youth Games in 2021 was granted to Shantou City, China. The memorandum concerning the right to host was also jointly signed.
