Praise for professional facilities from Liu Guoliang during national table tennis team training in Macao
The Chinese National Table Tennis Team chose Macao, the city where the COVID-19 outbreak was relatively contained, as training base after 2020 Qatar Open in March. The Sports Bureau cooperated positively to arrange close-door trainings in the Athletic Training and Development Centre. The team led by Liu Guoliang, president of Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA), arrived in Macao in mid-March. Many world champions including Xu Xin, Chen Meng, Ding Ning, Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Liu Shiwen as well as other players are accepting close-door trainings in the Athletic Training and Development Centre. Liu Guoliang said, “The facilities in the training centre are fit for our training needs and are all of professional level, including the size of the field, lighting, tables and floor. The supporting facilities are sufficient in the centre.”
No exchanges with Macao athletes were arranged during the training. Liu Guoliang frankly expressed that“Health is of utmost priority in the current phase. The training is carried out in a safe and scientific manner by controlling and adjusting the amount of training. There will also be intra-team competitions.” He further said, “This is a great opportunity for CTTA and Macao Sports Bureau to establish long-term strategic partnership. For instance, summer camps and winter camps will be organized. In the future, Macao athletes will be invited to train in Beijing training base and more sports events for adolescents will be held.”
