Mak Tin Ian and Tao Chang championed the Table Tennis Tournament
Macao Senior Men & Women Singular Table Tennis Championship, organized by the Macau Table Tennis Association, were held in the evening of January 13. 15-year-old Mak Tin Ian defeated Kuok Chun Kit in four straight sets to take the crown for the second time since 2018, while for the women's team, Tao Chang beat Wong Choi Chi by 4-1, winning the tournament for the first time.
Mak Tin Ian, who gave an average performance in the 2019 season, set out again this year and put up a fight against many strong competitors. In the semi-final match, Mak Tin Ian faced Chang Hoi Wa, and after the first four sets lagged behind by 1-3. However, Mak won the following three rounds and managed to reach the final by winning 4-3. Eventually, Mak Tin Ian defeated Kuok Chon Kit, with 11-7, 11-4, 11-4, and 11-5 to seal the title, while Chang Hoi Wa beat Kou Cheong Chak by 3-2 and took third place.
The female championship match took place between Wong Choi Chi and 17-year-old Tao Chang. The experienced player Wong Choi Chi took the lead by 11-8 in the first set, then Tao tied the match with 11-8. A crucial moment came when the players were tied 10-10 in the third set. Then, Tao Chang gained 2 points and ended the set with 12-10. With two more victories (11-5 and 11-8), Tao finally claimed the win by 4-1 and was awarded the championship title for the first time. In addition, Chong Weng I defeated Lei Wai Mei by 3-1 to win the bronze medal.
