Sports General Federation Visiting Sports Bureau to Discuss Sports Reopening
Members of the Federation of Macau-China Sport General Associations visited the Sports Bureau on June 16 to have a discussion with President Pun Weng Kun about the reopening of sports in Macao as the COVID-19 epidemic stabilizes. Chairman Ma Iao Hang and President Pun Weng Kun agreed that sports events can greatly promote the city's sports reopening and they looked forward to more sports activities which would bring sports back on track and facilitate economic recovery.
Ma said that since the outbreak of the epidemic in the beginning of 2020, Macao citizens and sports sector have stood in solidarity with the SAR government to fight the virus and tide over the rough patches. During this period, Macao's sports sector always cared for the motherland and raised one million patacas on its own to support the epidemic prevention in the Mainland. As the epidemic in Macao stabilizes, sports facilities of the "Public Sports Facilities Network" under the jurisdiction of the Sports Bureau are reopening one after another, the training of Macao's sports teams have resumed and the sports sector is gradually recovering from the epidemic.
President Pun also reported the work of the Sports Bureau in the first half of the year. The Sports Bureau adjusted the schedule responsively in accordance with the unfolding of the epidemic and took stringent preventive measures. The SAR government intends to hold more sports events which will boost the city's sports, tourism and sports economy. Pun added that apart from sports events, the Sports Bureau would increase the scale of public sports activities and organize mountain walks, cycling hikes and other regular sports activities for the citizens, so as to bring the joy of sports back to the life of the public.
