Cheang Weng Chi : Aiming higher and higher
Cheang Weng Chi, a 14-year-old swimmer, has been on the Macao swimming team for four years already. While representing Macao during these years, she took part in the Hong Kong - Macao Interport Swimming Competition, the Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships 2019 and the 2nd National Youth Games, achieving good results throughout. Cheang has not been to any competition for quite a while since the outbreak of Covid-19, so she's training against the clock, hoping to compete at next year's Asian Youth Games and other important events and giving her best.
Cheang, the third oldest amongst her siblings, had her first encounter with swimming at three because of her brothers who were both swimming athletes. She started her career as a swimmer as she was deeply enchanted by the cheer from the audience and the competing spirit of the swimmers at her brothers' competitions that she often attended. With all her efforts, Cheang got admitted into the Macao swimming team four years ago.
Specializing in breaststroke, Cheang is good at the 50 metre breaststroke and 200 metre medley. In 2019, she not only won a 200 metre medley silver and a 50 metre breaststroke gold at the Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships but also broke the 13-14 age group records of these two events.
Now Cheang trains six times a week. Thanks to the instructions of her coach, Cheang gets to learn more training methods to enhance her training efficiency and improve her swimming skill by making up for the gap in speed and stamina. Cheang intends to show up at competitions of higher-levels and break more records for Macao in the future.
