Jointly organised by the Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation, the Macao Gymnastics Association and the Macao Youth Federation, and co-organised by the Macao Sport Development Board, the “Chinese Gymnastics Team Charity Extravaganza” was held on 30th April at the Macao Forum in order to aid earthquake victims in Yushu County in Qinghai Province rebuild their homes. The show featured a variety of outstanding performances by gold medallists and attracted an audience of more than 3,000. All revenues from ticket sales were donated to the disaster area by the organisers. To show his support for the event, Li Ning, also known as the Prince of Gymnastics, donated sports products under his own brand for charity sale.
Officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Li Zhengqiao, Deputy Director of the Culture and Education Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, Huang Yubin, Deputy Director of the Gymnastics Administrative Centre of the General Administration of Sport of China, Ma Iao Hang, President of the Federation of Macao Sport General Association, Lo Keng Chio, President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macao, China, Chan Meng Kam, Founding President of the Macao Gymnastics Association, Li Chunyang, Founding Member of the Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation, Chan Chon Pat, President of the Macao Gymnastics Association, Li Jiaming, Deputy Director of the Macao Youth Federation, and Chan Hio Peng, Assistant General Manager of the Bank of China (Macao Branch).
Former Olympic gymnastics medallists Li Xiaopeng, Yang Wei and Liu Xuan were the guest hosts of the show. Together with 18 national gymnastics athletes, they jointly presented a total of 32 superb performances, including rhythmic gymnastics by Yang Yuqing, balance beam by Yang Yilin and Zhang Yujiao, floor exercises by Zou Kai, uneven bars by Jiang Yuyuan, acrobatic gymnastics mixed pair by Zhang Xiaolong and Huang Yan, trampoline by He Wenna and Lu Chunlong, rings by Chen Yibing and pommel horse by Xiao Qin. Their highly complicated and skilful performances brought continuous surprise to the audience. The closing performance, collective acrobatics, won the biggest applause and cheers of the night!
