Organised by the Macao Sport Development Board and co-organised by the Macao-China Paralympic Committee & Macao - China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled, Macao Special Olympics and Sports Association of the Deaf; the 2010 Macao Sports Day for the Disabled was held on 11th April at the Stadium of the Olympic Sports Centre. The event created more opportunities for disabled people to participate in sports activities and strengthened mutual care and friendship between participants. A total of 2,500 participants attended.
This year marked the 8th occurrence of the Macao Sports Day for the Disabled and featured 12 recreational activities. The disabled, their families and local residents were allowed to equally celebrate in the joy of sports. Through ‘Sports Day’, the organiser hopes to effectively promote the concept of ‘sport for all for a better health’ and send the healthy message of, ‘a lifelong sports and harmonious society for all.’ The event encourages public understanding and care of the disabled, promotes active participation of disabled people in social activities and helps build a harmonious and healthy society.
The officiating guests at the opening ceremony included the President of the Macao Sport Development Board Vong Iao Lek, Vice president of the Macao Sport Development Board Pun Weng Kun, President of the Macao-China Paralympic Committee & Macao - China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled Antonio Fernandes, Director of the Macao Special Olympics Wu Peng Koi, President of the Sports Association for the Disabled Ao Chi San, Members of the Sports Council Lou Keng Chio, Chan Weng Kit, Pau Ma Chong, Chang Chin Nam, Chung Hon Kun, Van Kuan Lok, Wu Chong Fai, Antonio Adriano da Silva Aguiar, Chong Coc Veng and Domingos Chan.
