The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) convened its Central Board Meeting in Beijing on 25th April 2008, during which two resolutions were reached. The first was to establish a new set of rules from 1st October 2008 and the second was to implement the aforementioned rules by 1st October 2010. The amendments included the change of the shape of the restricted area and of the three-point line in the basketball court.
To adhere to FIBA’s new rules for basketball court lines to be implemented this year, the Macao Sport Development Board completed the replacement of new basketball court lines in all indoor sports venues at the beginning of May. To complement the change of court lines, a new 24-second scoring system will also used in future basketball games, and technicians from the Information Centre of the General were sent to Macao to complete the relevant replacement and upgrade works.
In order to co-ordinate the implementation of new rules and cope with the needs of the Macao-China Basketball Association in organising basketball competitions in the second half of the year and conducting daily training, the Macao Sport Development Board arranged two training courses on two consecutive days on 24th and 25th August for the Association’s scoring team. During the courses, students were taught the characteristics of the new system and its operation. To ensure the correct usage of the system, the Board also arranged operational demonstrations and gave students the opportunity to engage in on-the-spot practice.
