In order to promote sport exchange between Guangdong and Macao and commemorate the establishment of the Macao SAR, the “Guangdong-Macao Football Tournament”, which is organized by Macao SAR Sport Development Board and the Sport Development Board of Guangdong Province, has been successfully held for 7 years already. This tournament, which aims at strengthening the development of football in Macao and Guangdong, is hosted by both parties and is held in Macao and Guangdong Province respectively. It promotes friendships between the two places and provides more opportunities for local football players to exchange skills with foreign teams.

The 1^st round of “The Eighth Guangdong-Macao Football Tournament” was held at the Stadium of the Zhuhai City Sports Centre on 21^st December. The pre-match handshake ceremony was presided by Pun Weng Kun, Vice-President of Macao Sport Development Board, Zhao Shaoming, Vice-President of the Sport Development Board of Guangdong Province, Cai Weixiong, Vice-President of the General Sport Federation of Guangdong Province and Chang Chin Nam, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Macao Football Association. After the ceremony, the first round of the tournament kicked off with aggressive attack from the Macao Team, and after just 9 minutes, Ho Wai Tong of the Macao Team, scored the first goal with a header. While the Guangdong team was still recomposing from this early goal, Leong Chung In, another Macao Team player took the opportunity and scored another goal just one minute later. The scoreline (2-0) was kept until the end of the first half. The second half of the game started with the Macao Team continued with their attacks. At 50^th minute, Wong Kuok Luen of the Macao Team, received a pass from his teammate from the goal line and with a brilliant strike scored the third goal from the penalty box.  Macao was leading for 3 goals. Although, the Guangdong team quickly organized their counterattacks, they could not capitalize on the chances they have and despite repeated attacks, the ball failed to make it to the back of the Macao’s net.  And at the 60^th and 80^th minutes, Che Chi Man and Leong Ka Hung of the Macao Team scored the 4^th and 5^th goal respectively; making the final score of the first round of the tournament Macao vs. Guangdong 5 - 0.

The second round of the tournament will take place in the football stadium of the Macao University of Science and Technology at 7 p.m. on 7^th January, 2011.
