The 2011 Macao Sports Day for the Disabled was held on 10th April at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. The event was organized by the Macao Sport Development Board, co-organized by the Macao-China Paralympic Committee & Macao-China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled, the Macao Special Olympics and the Sports Association of the Deaf. Around 2,500 people participated in the event. The event featured 9 recreational activities and 3 physical fitness monitoring stations were set up on site so the disabled and their families as well as local residents could share together the great joy of sports. Through the various recreational activities held, the event successfully disseminated the messages “a lifelong sports and harmonious society for all” and the concept of “let’s exercise for a better health” to the diasbled as well as to the public. Furthermore, the event also encourages public awareness and care of the disabled, promotes active participation of the disabled in social activities and helps jointly build a harmonious and healthy society.
The opening ceremony was jointly presided over by the VIP guests including the President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Vong Iao Lek; President of Macao-China Paralympic Committee & Macao-China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled, Chan Meng Kam; Deputy Director of the Macao Special Olympics, Chan I Vo; President of the Sports Association of the Deaf, Ao Chi San; representative of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Maria Dulce de S. F. Atraca; representative of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Kong Chi Meng; and Sports Council members et al. This year Macao’s Asian Games gold medalist Jia Rui, was specially invited to this event to offer support and encouragement to the disabled, to encourage them to actively participate in society and to face challenges with a positive attitude and spirit.
