“The 2nd Macao Recreational Festival”, jointly organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) and the Macao Sport Development Board, was held at various locations in Macao from 25th June to 3rd July. The event was launched at the Areia Preta Urban Garden on 25th June. The ceremony was presided by Mr. José Tavares, Vice President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Mr. Lo Veng Tak, Vice Chairman of the Administrative Committee of IACM, and Mr. João Baptista Manuel Leão, Chairman of the Consultative Committee of IACM
Through the diversity of recreational activities available at this year’s Festival, the host organizations hope to raise the public awareness on the importance of maintaining good health and to actively participate in physical exercises as a mean to relieve stress in daily life and to promote parent-child relationships. The organizers also hope to increase the public understanding of the sports facilities available as well as provide youths with the opportunities to learn through fun activities in the summer.
This year the festival was co-organized by around dozen social organizations. In addition to the regular activities of previous years, a number of beach related activities and competitions were added this year. This year, a total of 24 recreational games were available, allowing people at different ages and both genders to take part in the festival; they included. “Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Beach Handball, Beach Touch-Rugby Tournament”, “Sand Sculpting Contest”, “Gateball tournament”, “Wall Climbing Competition”, “Rally-Paper”, “Aquatic Games”, “Painting Workshop for Children”, “Games Booths”, “Aquatics Activities : Banana Boat, Jet Ski and Water Ski”, and the “Recreation Day for Handicap People” which was specifically devised for the disabled.
