The Macao Open is a professional golf tournament held in Macao and is also one of the stops of the Asian Tour organized by the Asian PGA. Since its inception in 1998, the Macao Open has been an important tournament of the Asian Tour. Over the years, the Macao Open has become a long-standing engrained tradition, and has attracted some of the world’s best players to participate.
The 2011 Macao Open took place from September the 15th through the 18th at the Macao Golf and Country Club. with the tournament attracted the participation of 144 golf players from 27 countries, including top-notch players from the Asian Tour like S.S.P. Chowrasia of India, the leader of the Asian Tour Order of Merit, and second placed Siddikur of Bangladesh. In the end, it was Chan Yih-shin of Chinese Taipei to win the Macao Open, with David Gleeson of Australia and Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand, to finish in second and third place respectively.
The Macao Open this year was presented by Cityneon which widely expanded the publicity channels for the tournament. All four rounds of the tournament were broadcasted live through the Asian Tour’s global television network and partners. In addition, highlights of the tournament were featured in the “Asian Tour’s best shots of the week” program and the tournament was also shown through the new media “Golfing World” on the internet. All these is enabled the tournament to be covered in 200 countries and in more than 8 million households, allowing the audience to appreciate the event, having also played a role in the promotion of Macao.
