With the growing population in Macao, and citizens’ increasing awareness of the benefits of sport on their health and body fitness, the demand for public sport facilities has become ever higher. Macao Sport Development Board launched the Public Sport Facility Network in 2006 and has since made apparent their dedication to serve the people and the public by continuously adding sport facilities for the citizens of Macao.
In order to align with the development of the Public Sports Facilities Network and to provide more sport facilities and space for the public, Macao Sport Development Board has turned to efficiently utilizing public space as a solution. One of the efforts made was to develop the land next to the Macao Tower into a temporary sport stadium for meeting the sports needs of the public. The facility includes two basketball courts, one 5-player soccer field, one 7-player sand soccer field and 20 pieces of fitness equipment.
This temporary stadium was officially in operation on August the 4th. To satisfy the different needs and demands of the public, the stadium is open to the public 24 hours a day. It is hoped that this will help provide more space and serve as a motivator for the public to engage in sports and exercise activities, thus promoting a healthy leisure lifestyle and realizing the Sport for All concept of “Let’s excise for our health”.
