The 1st Macao Sports Council Meeting of 2012 was held on February 21st in the conference room of the Macao East Asian Games Dome. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, and Chairman of the Macao Sports Council, Mr. Cheong U, presided over the event.
Mr. Cheong U began with a congratulatory speech to the newly elected Council members and extended Chinese New Year greetings to all members. The conference was then followed by a briefing regarding the regular subsidy and special subsidy budgets, as well as a summary and outlook of the Sports for All activities, the Public Sport Facilities Network and the Physical Fitness Monitoring Works for Macao Citizens. In addition, the conference also included brief presentations on the 2012 Sports Activity Plan, an award/certificate presentation ceremony to recognise the achievements of the Outstanding Athletes and Coaches of Macao in 2011, and a discussion on the assessment criteria for the recognition of legal persons in the sports sector.
During the conference, representatives of the different government departments introduced their respective sports and recreational facilities. The Municipal and Civic Affairs Bureau is planning to extend the number of bicycle tracks and hiking trails, plus to add sports and recreational facilities in unused areas of Macao. The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau will continue to promote the opening of schools to the public, aiming to achieve the goal of bringing schools closer to the community. The Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau introduced the sports and recreational facilities in the soon to be built Taipa Central Park.
