More than 1,500 athletes from 80 cities in 37 countries and regions took part in the 46nd International Children’s Games (ICG) which were held in Daegu, South Korea from July 13th to 16th. Of the 7 sporting events organized - track and field, swimming, table tennis, tennis, Taekwondo, football and volleyball - the Macao sports delegation sent 18 male and female athletes to compete in the track and field, swimming, table tennis and tennis events.
Recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Children’s Games are not only an international youth sports competition which combines sports, education and the promotion of cultural exchanges, it is also internationally the largest multisport-event for the youths. The participants are young athletes aged 12 to 15 and the event is held every year in different cities.
The International Children’s Games began in 1968 and therefore have over 40 years of history. The Macao S.A.R. has participated in the last 6 Games which took place in Thailand, Iceland, U.S.A, Greece, Bahrain and Scotland, in that order. The Games have provided young children with the opportunity to showcase their talents and train in sports.
The 2013 International Children’s Game will be held in Windsor, Canada.
