Organized by the International Wushu Federation and undertaken by Wushu General Association of Macao, the 4th International Youth Wushu Competition was held at the Tap Sec Sports Stadium from September 20th to 23rd. This competition attracted close to 800 team leaders, coaches and athletes from 40 countries and regions from five continents including Australia, China, Japan, United States of America, Brazil and South Africa to participate in the Taolu and Sanda tournaments. Macao Wushu Team sent 16 athletes and competed for glory in both events.
This year’s Taolu events were competed in 3 age groups (Group A, B and C) and sparring events were added. For sanda events, while the men’s group was divided into 8 different weight classes, the women’s group was divided into 4 different weight classes. The Wushu Delegation from Macao comprised a total of 12 male and female athletes to participate in 14 taolu events, including Changquan, Nanquan, Broadsword Play, Sword Play and Cudgel Play, as well as 4 male athletes to participate in different classes of the sanda knockout tournament. After a series of fierce competitions, the home team achieved excellent result and took home a total of 4 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals.
