With Kumpoo as its title sponsor, Macao Open Badminston Grand Prix Gold -- sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), hosted by Badminton Federation of Macao and supported by Macao Sport Development Board--- was held between November 27 and December 2 in Macao Forum. As a BWF Grand Prix Gold, this year’s tournament drew the largest number of participants in its history, with a total of 320 top badminton players from 19 countries and regions worldwide, including China, Britain, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei to compete in 5 events:Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The total prize money at Macao Open Grand Prix Gold was one million Macao patacas.
After a series of fierce competitions, Chinese Chen YueKun and Sun Yu won the Men’s and Women’ Singles title respectively. Lee Sheng-Mu and Tsai Chia-Hsin from Chinese Taipei claimed the Men’ Doubles medal. The Korean team of Eom Hye-won and Jang Ye-na seized the Women’s Doubles title and Indonesian Lilyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad earned the Mixed Doubles crown.
