2012 Macao International Marathon, hosted by the Macao Sport Development Board and the Macao Association of Athletics, title sponsored by the Galaxy Entertainment Group, kicked off in the early morning on December 2 at the Stadium of Olympic Sport Centre, with more than 6000 athletes from 57 countries and regions running in several classifications.
Entering its 31st edition, the Macao International Marathon has become one of the long-awaited annual sport events, drawing the attention and participation of many great long distance runners across the globe. Beside the African hotshots with race finish time within 2 hours and 10 minutes, other specially invited male marathon athletes this year included athletes from Portugal, Mainland China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Guizhou Province, Fujian Province and Macao’s representative Kwok Chi Wai. Specially invited female athletes included winner of last year’s marathon and recorder holder Tsega Gelaw Reta, athletes from Africa, Mainland China and local legend Hoi Long.
