The 49th CIK-FIA World Karting Championship - organized by the Automobile General Association Macao-China, co-organized by the Macao Sport Development Board and the Macao Government Tourist Office, and authorized by the FIA Commission Internationale the Karting - was held on October 17-21 at Coloane Karting Track in Macao. Mr. Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture presided the lion dance eye-dotting ceremony, marking the start of the competition.
In the KF1 Championships, 33 karters from 16 countries and regions including Europe, Macao and other Asian Pacific regions raced for the title of the annual championship in this four-day tournament. In the KF 3 championships, 12 experienced riders from 8 countries and regions competed in quest for the title. Moreover, 29 contestants from Macao, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei vied for the crown of Rotax Max Senior.
Briton Tom Joyner, with his brilliant performance, claimed the KF1 championship, while Italian Tiene Felice and Polish Basz Karol finished second and third respectively.
Overall, Flavio Camponeschi was crowned 2012 CIK-FIA World Karting Champion with 119 points. Tom Joyner, who won all four races in Macao, seized the runner-up spot. Italian karter Tiene Felice came third and Macao’s Andy Chang twelfth.
In Rotax Max Senior, Hong Kong Busato Jorge took the victory. He was followed by Macao’s Cheong Chi On and Tsai Cheng Yang of Chinese Taipei. Indian Daruvala Jehan earned the first place in KF3 championship where Japanese Marino Joe and Ishida Joe secured the second and the third place separately.
