World Walking Day Hiking Trip, which was held on October 2 by the Macao Sport Development Board, was an effort to echo the World Walking Day---set up by the Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA)---to foster full public participation in physical exercise as well as make the most of local sport facilities to enrich residents’ leisure life. Guests attended the inauguration ceremony include the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr. Cheong U, the President of the Sport Development Board, Mr. Vong Iao Lek, the Deputy Director of the Health Bureau, Mr. Chan Wai Sin, the Director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau Ms. Leong Lai, the Director of Macao Government Tourist Office, Mr. João Manuel Costa Antunes, the Vice Presidents of the Sport Development Board, Mr. José Tavares and Mr. Pun Weng Kun, members of the Sports Committee and representatives of local sport associations.
Nearly two thousand local hikers set off from Seac Pai Van Park on a trip of roughly four kilometers along Alto de Coloane Park before they returned to the starting point. The participants appreciated the beauty of the surrounding landscape amid tour guides’ introduction of various landscape and plants seen on route as well as talks on environmental protection, through which the hikers were able to learn more about the nature.
The host hopes the event can encourage residents to lead a healthy life with regular exercise and reach the goal of engaging everyone in the city in sports.
