Organized by the Macao Sport Development Board, the seminar on “Training Subsidy Program for Elite Athletes” and “Education Subsidy Program for Retired Elite Athletes” took place at the Tourism Activities Centre on November 8. More than 150 people including directors of local sports associations, coaches and athletes attended the seminar and were introduced to the relevant programs.
To promote the development of athletic sports in Macao, the Macao Sport Development Board launched the “Training Subsidy Program for Elite Athletes” and “Education Subsidy Program for Retired Elite Athletes” many years ago to help nurture elite athletes in Macao and enhance their competitive level. After years of practice and ceaseless examination, the Board has already considered professionalism as the positioning for development of athletic sports, therefore the optimization and improvement of the current subsidy program is a must to meet the medium- and long-term development goal formulated by the sports associations. The purpose of the program is to cultivate young athletes and encourage them to take full efforts in athletic sports trainings and competitions so that they may enhance their international competiveness.
“Training Subsidy Program for Elite Athletes” and “Education Subsidy Program for Retired Elite Athletes” are always in full accord, serving as the cornerstone for the future development of athletic sports in Macao. The series of implementations not only systematically and comprehensively support the trainings of athletic sports but also create good conditions for the future establishment of the athletes learning and training centre. We believe the two subsidy programs may allow athletes to see the support and safeguard from the training subsidy to after-sport life, thereby athletes will feel safe and fully engage in the training, and try their best to reach the goal and seek breakthrough, continuously fight for the international honours and awards for the Macao SAR.
The Acting president Mr. José Tavares, vice president Mr. Pun Weng Kun and the head of the Sports Development Department Ms. Lam Lin Kio from Macao Sport Development Board attended the seminar and illustrated the program details and content to the participants, including interactive exchange.
