The “Macao Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon 2013” organized by the Macao Sport Development Board and the Macao Athletic Association and sponsored by the Galaxy Entertainment Group took place on December 1. Having been held for 32 years, the Macao International Marathon has become one of the finale sport events of the year and provided a platform for runners around the world for an annual gathering and competition.
This year, a total of 6,000 athletes from 47 countries and regions participated in the events of men’s and women’s marathon, half marathon, mini marathon and group events respectively. The athlete especially invited by the organizer Julius Kiplimo Maisei from Kenya won the championship of the most eye catching men’s marathon race by finishing it in 2 hours 12 minutes and 43 seconds. He also renewed the record of the race. His compatriots Julius Kiprono Mutai and Elijah Mwaniki Mbogo got the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up respectively. Regarding the women’s marathon, Kim Mi Gyong from DPRK finished the race in 2 hours 36 minutes and 32 seconds and became the champion. Purity Kangogo Kimetto and Matebo Ruth Chemisto from Kenya won the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up. As for Macao athlete group, Chan Chong Ip and Hoi Long became the winners of the male and female groups. Hoi also broke the Macao record with 3 hours 2 minutes and 21 seconds.
