The 1st Meeting of the newly elected Macao Sports Committee was held on February 26 at the conference room of the Macao East Asian Games Dome. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and the Chairman of the Macao Sports Committee, Mr. Cheong U, presided over the meeting.
Mr. Cheong U began with a congratulatory speech to the newly elected Committee members and extended Chinese New Year greetings to all members. He also congratulated the Macao China Sports Delegates for their outstanding achievement – winning 15 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 14 bronze medals – in the 3rd Lusofonia Games held in Goa, India last January. Besides introducing parts of the 2014 policy address concerning sports development, Mr. Cheong U also briefed on the budgets of regular and special subsidies in 2014, summarized on the works and projects of 2013, and highlighted major works and goals of 2014. During the meeting, Mr. Cheong U also provided the members with more ideas about what responsibilities previously shouldered by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau will be taken on by the Macao Sport Development Board in the coming year.
