Application for Summer Activities 2014 was successfully completed from 24th to 27th May. Summer Activities is a large-scale programme for the youth. It encourages them to utilize their leisure time. Through participating in various activities, the youth not only discover their talents and get used to living in a group, but also acquire the correct value. This year, a total of over 50,000 quotas with more than 1,700 classes of up to 400 activities will be offered to teenagers.
Coordinated with organizations and sports associations, the Macao Sport Development Board will provide a total of 23,979 quotas with 793 classes of 132 sports activties. Summer Activities not only allows sports associations to spot more talented athletes from a bigger pool, but also enriches the off-campus life of the youth.
This year, 19 new sports activities including volleyball coach training, rugby, advanced billiard, yatching, youth boxing (introductory course), belly dance, intellectual skills formation camp, tree house adventure camp, and a series of Macao-Guangdong sports exchange camp and Macao-Guangdong family sports exchange camp will be introduced to the programme.
The highlight of this year is the series of “Macao-Guangdong sports exchange camp” and “Macao-Guangdong family sports exchange camp”, promoting the idea of “Let’s exercise with our children to enjoy more fun and better health”. The new series is composed of ten activities including various camps featuring different kinds of sports respectively. They allow participants to enjoy a different experience and the fun of exercising while living out the Sports for All goal of “Let’s exercise for a better health”.
The camps featuring various sports are divided into elementary levels and advanced levels for youth aged between 8 and 12 and those aged between 10 to 15 respectively. They perfectly cater for the different needs of students of all levels. The five-day summer camps will provide collective trainings to participants in which the elementary camps will teach students basic skills and rules, and demand adequate amount of fitness and endurance trainings. Regarding the advanced camps, they will offer trainings of a sport to participants. National and provincial coaches will impart skills to participants throughout the whole course. As a result, the students will learn more skills as a single player and improve their personal skills. They will also become a better team player in working out the tactics of the whole group, and receive adequate amount of fitness and endurance trainings. Participants will be accommodated in the Comprehensive Building of the Huangcun Sports Training Base in Guangdong for five days. Through learning and exercising, youth will become more interested in sports, improve physical fitness level and grow into more independent individuals.
The Macao Sport Development Board will also offer potential development activities to the disabled, hearing-impaired and mentally handicapped youth, namely swimming and boccia classes for disabled youth, swimming and children’s latin classess for hearing impaired or speech impaired youth, and football, bowling, basketball and table tennis classes for mentally handicapped youth.
The registration for this year’s summer activities programme was conducted smoothly. More than 19,025 people signed up for the programme and a total of 34,669 person-times completed their registration. The organizers urge participants to follow rules and teachers’ instructions during the summer activities courses. They wish the participants a happy and meaningful summer vacation. They also hope that students will “Cherish the youth and live out a fruitful summer vacation” through joining summer activities and fulfill the Sports for All goal of “Let’s exercise for a better health” when participating in sports activities.
