To provide more opportunities for the elderly to participate in sports activities and allow them to gather and chat, share the sports training experiences and fun of sports, and foster the development of sports for all, the Macau Sport Development Board and the Macau Elderly Sports Association co-organized – and in association with the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau, the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the Women’s General Association of Macau and the Macao Polytechnic Institute Seniors Academy – the Macao Elderly Sports Day 2014 at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on 14th September, attracting more than 2,000 people.
By attending various recreational activities, the elderly shared the fun of fitness exercises with their families. The onsite booths of physical fitness assessments also helped the elderly to understand the importance of exercise to their well-being. During the activity, several organizations arranged performances such as senior aerobics, Macao aerobics, softball, Tai Chi double fans, celebrating dance, Yangko fan dance, fan dance, Qigong, Macao Lotus and social dance to arouse public awareness of and interests in sports.
The organizers aimed to enable the elderly to share the fun of sports with their families and the public through the event, further promoting the message of Sports for All - Let’s Exercise for a Better Health”, so as to encourage the elderly to actively participate in sports activities, cultivate a good habit of regular exercises, maintain their healthy bodies, and through this enriching the elderly’s leisure activities, enhancing the quality of life, and creating a harmonious and healthy society.
