The Macau Sport Development Board organises a ‘Sport for All Day’ every month in public recreation facilities and parks. Since its first edition, the event has been warmly received and vigorously supported by residents who participate. In 2014, the ‘Sport for All Day’ event was held in Areia Preta Park, Leisure Area on Rua do General Ivens Ferraz in Fai Chi Kei, Tap Seac Square, open area beside Flower City Garden (Rua de Coimbra), Leisure Area between Wang Hoi and Wang Kin Buildings, Park of Iao Hon Market, etc. Over 31,000 people participated in the event.
Established on site were games booths themed around different sports, including softball, croquet, table tennis, hockey, bowling, rope skipping, badminton, and chess, etc. Professional personnel dispatched by relevant sport associations were present at each booth to instruct correct movements and methods to play sports, so that residents could learn and master the knowledge and tricks of the sports. Additionally, instructors and students of Sport for All Fitness and Recreation Class were assigned to demonstrate their skills. As a result, residents learned and understood assorted sports, enhanced their enthusiasm for sports and exercised in a skilful manner.
The organiser hopes that via the Sport for All Day event the message about the healthiness induced by sports can be delivered to people from all walks of life. Residents will thus be encouraged to play sports proactively, cultivate a habit of exercising frequently and promote their physical health.
