In order to promote the development of sport for all and raise the public awareness of women’s participation in sports as well as their physical and mental health, Macao Sport Development Board and the Women’s General Association of Macao have jointly organised the Macao Women’s Sports Carnival for thirteen consecutive years since 2003. The Carnival seeks to increase women’s awareness and understanding of sport and its positive health effects, thereby encouraging them to cultivate the lifelong habit of exercise. Since its inception, the Carnival has been well received byMacaoresidents and has made certain achievements in promoting women’s participation in sport. This year, the Macao Women’s Sports Carnival was held on March 21 and 22.
The 2015 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival was divided into two sections. The first part was a seminar on ‘the significance of weight training to women’s health’, the curtain-up of the 2015 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival event, which took place at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf on 21st March at 2:30pm, during which representatives from different women’s associations from Beijing, Guizhou, Xinhui, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand convened to discuss and exchange their opinions on the related topic with local women. The seminar attracted over 300 residents, who were involved and interested in the topic and actively submitted their questions and opinions.
A series of sports and recreational competitions were held on 22nd March at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. Contestants were divided into two groups according to age; namely, Group A (aged 18-40) and Group B (aged 41-60) to compete in two rounds of sports and recreational competitions, respectively, with the winner determined by the total score. The organiser also invited different women’s associations fromBeijing,Guizhou, Xinhui, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei,Malaysia,Myanmar,Singapore andThailand to team up and take part in the games, infusing extra energy and delight into the event. The 2015 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival attracted some 6,000 participants in 65 teams from 48 organisations.
