In order to strengthen exchanges and co-operation between Macao SAR and Mainland China in the area of sport, the sports departments of the two regions respectively signed a ‘Letter of Intent on Sichuan-Macao Sports Exchange and Co-operation’ in 2009 and a ‘Letter of Intent on Fujian-Macao Sports Exchange and Co-operation’ in 2012. Since the signing of the Letter of Intent, the sports sectors of Macao and Sichuan, Macao and Fujian have maintained a good co-operation relationship, providing the young people of Sichuan, Fujian and Macao with a platform for mutual learning, whilst enhancing understanding and friendship and facilitating the exchange and co-operation of youth sports among these regions. The relationship has also deepened understanding of the sports sectors in other areas, serving as a solid foundation for further sports exchange and co-operation between the Mainland and Macao.
From 28th March to 1st April 2015, Macao Sport Development Board organised a delegation of 43 members to Sichuan to participate in the ‘Sichuan and Macao Youth Sports Exchange Activities’. During the event the delegates exchanged skills with the young athletes there in synchronised swimming, martial arts, table tennis and badminton; they also visited several provincial sports technology schools and a number of sports training venues and facilities, in addition to observing the professional training of the provincial team, in order to understand the development of local sport.
From 5th June to 8th June 2015, the Fujian Provincial Administration of Sport also organised a delegation of 24 members to Macao to participate in ‘Fujian and Macao Youth Sports Exchange Activities’, exchanging table tennis and badminton skills with Macao’s young athletes.
These exchange activities have facilitated the development of friendship between young people on the Mainland and in Macao, broadening their horizons whilst promoting the sports development of the two places.
