The Fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG) organized by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) was held in Da Nang, Vietnam from 24thSeptember to 3rd October. It is the fourth time that Macao Delegation under the leadership of Kuok Po Chuen, Council Member of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, participated in the games. The delegation included 21 athletes participating in Beach Bodybuilding and Beach Shuttlecock. They won five bronze medals in Beach Shuttlecock.
There are 14 sports events, 22 disciplines and 172 events in total, and around 2,515 athletes from 45 countries or regions participating in the games. As for Beach Shuttlecock, the Macao delegation took part in Men's/Women's Singles, Men's/Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Men's/Women's Team Competition: Ho Man Chon, Leong Chi Weng, Wai Chi Lon and Tam Chi Kin attended the competition of Men's, and Lam Ka Man, Leong On Kei, Wong Wai Seong and Wong Weng Man attended the competition of Women's.
In the beach shuttlecock competition on 26th and 27th , the Macao athletes firstly won three bronze medals in Men's/Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles; On 28th, Wong Weng Man got grades of two wins and three defeats, and successfully entered the final round. Unfortunately she lost the competition 0-2 in the round with an athlete from Vietnam and finished in a tie for the third place with an athlete from Thailand; on 29th, in Women's Team Competition, the Macao athletes lost the competition with Vietnam and finished in a tie for the third place with the China team. In all events, the Macao delegation won five bronze medals in total.
On 27th, Beach Bodybuilding Team sent Ieong Weng Kuan to attend the competition of classes 158 cm or below, and Wong Chong Ieong the classes 172 cm or below respectively. Unfortunately, they failed in the first round.
Lo Keng Chio hosted media meeting
The President of Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau Lo Keng Chio convened a media committee meeting as the President of OCA Media Committee on 23rd September, synchronized with the Fifth Asian Beach Games in Da Nang, Vietnam. Prior to the said meeting, the unveiling ceremony for the 5th ABG Media Center was held.
