The election of the 2018 - 2020 Sports Committee was held at 3p.m. on 14 January, at the multifunction room on the 3rd floor of the Olympic Sports Centre – Stadium in Taipa. Among 56 qualified sports associations, 47 representativesattended to vote. The election was monitored by Pun Weng Kun, president of the Sports Bureau, as well as vice presidents Lao Cho Un and Lam Lin Kio. After a round of voting, 10 candidates, namely Ho King Lun, Lou Kit Long, Wu Chong Fai, Lai Pak Leng, Chung Hon Kun, Chan Mun Fong, Cheang Kuok Hang, Ma Chi Seng, Chan Kwan Fai and Chan Weng Kit de Noronha, were elected as new Sports Committee members.
The new Sports Committee held their first meeting of this year at 11a.m. on 9 February at the conference room of the Macao East Asian Games Dome. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and president of the Sports Committee.
In the meeting, Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng hoped that all committee members would continue to support the sports-related affairs in Macao, and in the future provided suggestions for policies and development of sports in Macao. Meanwhile, he also pointed out that the sports, tourism, and cultural departments would continue to make use of the advantages of Macao in different aspects, illustrate synergistic effects, cooperate with the “Belt and Road Initiative” of our home country, the construction of the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area, and strive to turn Macao into a“city of events”, influenced by Chinese culture accompanied with multicultural coexistence and integration.
