The Sports Bureau held the event“True Dialogue between the Youth and the President of Sports Bureau”on the 3rd floor of the Taipa Olympic Sports Centre–Stadium in the afternoon of 10 February. This event attracted more than 200 members of the youth teams from their sports associations, who engaged in an exchange with Pun Weng Kun, president of the Sports Bureau. Tam Iao San, who is a media expert, was the host of this event. President Pun Weng Kun introduced sports-related policies proposed by the SAR government to the youth athletes. The policies include the funding program for the training of athletes in competitive sports and elite athletes and works in the area of sports such as “Sports for All” activities and large-scale sports events. The president also listened to the youth athletes' opinions concerning the SAR's development in sports.
Numerous participants proposed questions in relation to the support and funding for sports events. Pun Weng Kun stated that the Sports Bureau has been providing support to plans such as coach employment, outbound training, medical insurances, and the optimization of training equipment and sports facilities. He emphasized that the Bureau is willing to invest more funding in various aspects. However, based on the extent to which the athletes are devoted to training and their competitiveness in competitions, the Bureau has to consider issues such as the effectiveness of training and the results in competitions to ensure that such plans are funded fairly.
The Sports Bureau expected that through this event, it can understand the athletes' and the youth's eagerness in sports and their thoughts in this regard, and doing so can help the SAR Government to research into and formulate sports-related policies in the future. Meanwhile, the youth who attended this event were also encouraged to nurture positive values and an active personality, and to build up a self -improving attitude towards life by engaging in sports activities frequently.
