The "Forty Years of Friendly Relations" Football Exhibition Match was held in Macao Stadium at night on May 21. The Macao football team competed against a strong visiting team, Sporting CP. Finally, Sporting CP, mainly composed of young players, won 7:0 against Macao team, and gave a valuable chance for the Macao players to experience the excellent skill of a strong European football team. Mr. Lao, a resident who supported Macao team, stated after the match, “The significance of a friendly match is not the result, while it is important for Macao team to gain experience in the match, which makes the players achieve progress.”

The match attracted around 1,500 audiences. The Macau Football Association sent a team of which all players were Chinese in this match. Facing Sporting CP, which has efficient pace of attack, speed and explosiveness, the Macao team was lagged behind by 0:3. After changing players on the sides, the Macao team still lost another 4 goals despite their endeavour, and they lost 0:7 eventually. Iong Cho Ieng, the coach who led Macao team for the first time, stated, “In my view, winning and losing are not the key issue. I saw Macao players' endeavour throughout this 90-minute match. They remained persistent despite the fact that their opponent was strong. They were not frustrated after losing goals. In the process, they strove to gain opportunities for counter-attack.

As the match ended, Sporting CP continued their visit in Macao, shared their technical experiences with the coaches in Macao and trained the teenager players in Macao.
