The 65th Macao Grand Prix was held from the 15th to 18th of November successfully, featuring fascinating and exhilarating competitions. Daniel Ticktum, British racer from Red Bull, defended his champion title in the finale Macao Grand Prix Formula 3 competition - FIA Formula 3 World Cup, fulfilling his wish to retain championship title. In the Macao GT Cup - FIA GT World Cup, Augusto Farfus, Brazilian racer from BMW, edged out Mercedes and won the championship title. After competitions lasting three rounds in the Macau Guia Race - FIA RV World Cup, Gabriele Tarquini, Italian senior racer aged 56, became the overall champion this year. The result of the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix – 52nd Edition, British racer Peter Hickman's win was his third in Macao.
Ticktum Defended F3 Champion
On the 18th, an accident brought the fourth lap of the FIA Formula 3 World Cup to a stop as German racer Sophia Flörsch lost control on the straight away nearing Lisboa Bend at high speed. This accident caused injuries to five people, including two racers. They were sent to the hospital and fortunately were not in critical condition. After the accident, the F3 race was suspended for half an hour. As the race resumed, Ticktum defeated his teammate Joel Eriksson and became the champion. Sacha Fenestraz earned the third place. Ticktum, after being crowned the champion once again, stated, “This year marked the last time that I compete in F3. Next year, I may compete in the Super Formula Championship held in Japan.
Farfus Won Champion in GT
In the GT World Cup, Augusto Farfus Jr surpassed Raffaele Marciello, racer from Mercedes, near Lisboa Bend in the eighth lap. Despite being surrounded and threatened by Edoardo Mortara and Maro Engel, another two racers from Mercedes, Farfus remained calm and crossed the finishing line as the first racer, obtaining the championship title for the first time. Engel and Mortara won the runner-up and the second runner-up title. Farfus won the GT World Cup champion for the first time, he stated, “I took a ride on my dad's motorcycle for the first time 29 years ago and today I became a champion racer in the World Cup.
Tarquini Won in Guia Race Finally
In the Macau Guia Race - FIA WTCR, Jean-Karl Vernay from WRT Audi won the championship in the first round. Yvan Muller and Rob Huff were awarded the runner up and the second runner-up respectively. The result of the next round was: Frédéric Vervisch earned the first place, with Timo Scheider and Yvan Muller in the 2nd and the 3rd place respectively. Italian racer Tarquini could not complete the race in this round, but in the third round he completed the race in the 10th position, accumulating an overall score of 306 and defeating Yvan Muller by a margin of 3 points. As result, Tarquini won the championship title this year. Esteban Guerrieri, champion in the third round, won the third place overall. The 2nd place and the 3rd place went to Rob Huff and Norbert Michelisz respectively.
Hickman won in Motorcycle Grand Prix Three Times
Peter Hickman and Michael Rutter competed intensely in the Motorcycle Grand Prix again. In the last three laps, Hickman was leading decisively. Subsequently, No. 34 racer Ben Wylie collided with No. 77 racer Phil Crowe at Fishermen's Bend. Thus, the organizers announced that the race ended earlier, under a red flag. It was the third time that British racer Hickman won the championship in the Motorcycle Grand Prix. Rutter and Martin Jessopp were in the second and the third place respectively.
In other races, a twelve-lap race took place as the grand final of the Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup. Macao racer Kuong Kin Chong, the second pole position, surpassed another Macao racer Mak Ka Lok and proceeded to the first position in the third lap. Hong Kong racer Lo Ka Fai marched to the second place, once threatening Kuong Kin Chong. During the last two laps, an accident happened and thus a safety car entered the track. In the last lap, the positions did not change. Kuong Kin Chong kept leading and eventually won the championship of the Greater Bay Area Lotus Cup.
In the Macao RV Cup, the races in the 1600cc Turbo class and over-1950 cc class took place simultaneously. This 12-lap race was paused twice with a red flag and came to the end upon the second pause. Wong Iat Seng, Suncity Racing Team racer who set out as the first one, blocked Mitsuhiro Kinoshita successfully so he could not catch up. Wong Iat Seng became the overall champion in the Macao RV Cup for the first time. Mitsuhiro Kinoshita and Hong Kong racer Poon Tak Chon were overall second place and third place respectively.
