The 30th Summer Universiade was held in Napoli, Italy from July 3 to 14. Led by the leader of Macao China delegation - President of the Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun and deputy leader Lou Kit Long, the athletes competed in five different events including swimming, judo, fencing, Taekwondo and track-and-field.
The event was preluded at 9:00 p.m. local time on July 3 at the Sao Paulo Stadium. President Pun Weng Kun and deputy leader Lou Kit Long attended the opening ceremony together. The flag raising ceremony for the Macao sports delegation took place in the athlete village at 4:00 p.m. on July 2.
The Macao delegation achieved the following results:
Swimmers Choi Weng Tong, Ng Chi Lek, Lao Chon Pong, Cheang Weng Lam, Choi Lok Iong, Lin Sizhuang, Vong Erica Man Wai and Chao Man Hou competed in the swimming event. In particular, Wong Man Wai achieved the result of 1 min 05 sec 04 in the women's 100-meter backstroke event, setting a new Macao record. Chao Man Hou achieved 2 min 15 sec 09 in the men's 200-meter breaststroke, setting a new Macao record and being promoted to the semifinal. However, regrettably he could not make it to the final. He ranked the 16th with the overall result.
In the Taekwondo event, Fung Hoi Ching and Ho Chi Tong competed in the women's and men's individual Pumsae preliminary respectively. Fong Hoi Cheng ranked the 9th in her group with the score 6.949, while Ho Chi Tong got the score 7.482, ranking the 7th in his group and being promoted to the semifinal. However, regrettably he could not make it to the next level. Ho Chi Tong and Wong Chi Cheng stopped proceeding in the semifinal in the mixed gender pumsae event with the score of 6.366.
In the track-and-field event, Lam Cho Kei achieved the result of 11 sec 56 in the men's 100-meter sprint. Loi Im Lan achieved 12 sec 12 in the women's 100-meter sprint. Sou I Man achieved 5.04 meters in the women's long jump. Cheang Chen Fai achieved 15 sec 32 in the men's 110-meter hurdle. Wong Ka Chun achieved 7.02 meters in the men's long jump event. All of them could not proceed.
Ao Ieong Hang Io, Wong Chi Ieng and Tang Lai Man competed in the judo event. Macao athletes Tang Nga Hei, Ng Wai Kit and Hoi Man Kit competed in the fencing event. All contestants in these two events performed their best, although regrettably they could not proceed.
