Cheang Chak Sun: grateful for the friendships made along the way
The 17 year-old synchronised swimmer Cheang Chak Sun competed in FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2018 - Beijing(CHN), the 18th Asian Games and the 18th FINA World Championships.
Cheang, who sees synchronised swimming as her life, has had an affinity for the water since she was young. Cheang was also influenced by her family, her grandmother and her father being top swimmers themselves when they were younger. By the time Cheang reached 3 or 4 years old her grandmother often took her to the pool to swim. Then in one summer when she was in primary school, Cheang attended a summer swimming training camp, and it turned out that her coach was specialised in synchronised swimming. The coach thought Cheang was talented - she could both swim and dance - so it was suggested that Cheang try synchronised swimming. She tried it out and has been sticking with it for ten years.
This year marks ten years since Cheang began synchronised swimming, but 2018 was the year she really began to love the sport, and began to see it as part of her life. That year, Cheang set herself a target: to throw herself into training and competing with everything she had, and eventually her hard work paid off. The success she enjoyed in this period cemented synchronised swimming as the most important part of Cheang's life.
But Cheang, who wouldn't give up synchronised swimming, says the most appealing aspect of the sport is meeting like-minded people, such as her teammates, or those she meets during competitions and training. Everyone is there because they love synchronised swimming, and they are all working hard towards a common goal. This, Cheang believes, is the one of the greatest things to find in life.
