Sport for all is the foundation for the development of competitive sports, and it is also a key focus of the SAR Government’s implementation of policies in the area of sports. Macao Sport Development Board is relentless in its effort to promote Sport for All, with the perspective that through the participation in sporting activities, residents can improve their physical quality and enrich their leisure time, thus enhance social harmony .
In order to broaden the scale of Sport for All, to expand its scope of service to cover different strata and areas of the society, to offer more opportunities for residents to participate in Sport for All, Macao Sport Development Board signed the “Sport for All Cooperation Agreement” on Jan 27th with the General Union of Neighborhood Association of Macao, the Macao Federation of Trade Unions and the Women’s General Association of Macao, at the conference room on the 5th floor of the multi-storey car park of the Olympic Sports Centre. Various aspects of the cooperation include sponsoring social organizations to launch or jointly organize sport activities, as well as physical exercise recreational classes for the public.
President Vong Iao Lek indicated in his speech that the cooperation agreement established with the three associations last year has shown great positive results, and on this basis, all parties will continue to maintain the close cooperative relationship this year. With the associations’ resources of venues, teachers, large membership base and experiences in organizing mass sporting activities, Sport for All activities will thus be better organized and promoted. Last year 15 Sport for All activities were held, over 30 recreational classes were launched and more than 900 quotas were offered. This year the number of recreation classes will increase to more than 150, providing over 3500 quotas. Moreover, there are new sporting activities launched, such as “Evening Aerobics”, “The Neighborhood’s Athletics Carnival” and “The Athletics Fun Day for Workers of the Gaming Industry”, etc. to offer residents from different strata of our society more opportunities to take part in physical exercise.
