To develop and promote the sport of table tennis in Macao, as well as nurture young table tennis players with a view to encourage young people to participate in physical exercise and sport while improving their physical condition, the Table Tennis Youth Academy held an open selection day at Pavilion B of the Tap Seac Multi-sport Pavilion on December 18th, 2011, selecting budding young students through various skill tests.
Warmly received by parents and young people alike, the event attracted the enrollment of more than 200 girls and boys born between 1996 and 2004 with quite a few parents cheering their children on, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.
Following the arrangement of the organizer’s coaches, each of the participants was tested for skills such as speed, reaction and agility according to their age group. Coaching staff with extensive experience from the Macao Table Tennis Association were responsible for scoring these skill tests. Young athletes who passed the tests were then selected to participate in systematic training programs, according to their performances in the tests.
The instructors from the Macao Table Tennis Youth Academy were experienced coaches appointed by Macao Table Tennis Association. The Academy’s purpose is to promote and develop youth table tennis, and nurture potentially gifted young people who are enthusiastic about the sport.
