Organized by Guangdong Province Sports Bureau and the Macao Sport Development Board, in association with the Guangdong Football Association and Macao Football Association, the 9^th Guangdong-Macao Football Cup took place on November 29^th and December 17^th in Macao and Zhongshan City respectively. The purpose of the Cup is to reinforce the exchanges between the two sides in the field of sports, as well as commemorate the anniversary of the establishment of the Macao S.A.R. In addition, the event offered local athletes more opportunities to compete with their peers, as well as exchange skills and develop ties of friendship. Held every year, the Football Cup is played over 2 legs and the two sides alternate as hosts.

The 1^st leg of the cup took place on November 29^th at the University of Science and Technology Football Field. The players of both teams shook hands with distinguished guests including the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr. Cheong U, the President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Mr. Vong Iao Lek, the Deputy Director of the Guangdong Province Sports Bureau, Mr. Chan Ion Sam, the Vice-President of the Guangdong General Union of Sports, Mr. Choi Wai Hung, Chairman of Administrative Board of the Macao Football Association, Mr. Chong Koc Veng, the Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Sport Bureau, Ms. Tsang Hio Hong, the Vice-Presidents of the Macao Sport Development Board, Mr. José Tavares and Mr. Pun Weng Kun, Director of the Guangdong Football Sport Centre, Mr. O Ko Hung, and members of the Sports Council. The match turned out to be a heated battle. The local team, benefiting from its home field advantage, defeated Guangdong by 4-0 and won the 1^st leg.

The 2^nd leg was held on December 17^th at the Xingzhong Stadium in Zhongshan city. The Vice-President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Mr. Pun Weng Kun, the Deputy Director of the Guangdong Province Sports Bureau, Mr. Chio Sio Meng, the Vice-President of the Guangdong General Union of Sports, Mr. Choi Wai Hung, and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Macao Football Association, Mr. Tsang Chin Nam jointly hosted the opening ceremony. Macao team showed its aggressiveness right from the start and both teams attacked and defended hard. Guangdong team seized their chances and scored to win by 2-0 in the end.

After the two rounds of competition, Macao team won by 4-2 on aggregate, winning the Guangdong-Macao Football Cup for the third consecutive year.
